What happened
Türkiye has assigned names to halls and meeting rooms for COP31 in Antalya. The 1.1 million m² COP31 site will be divided between a 527,000 m² Blue Zone and a 582,000 m² Green Zone.
The Blue Zone’s principal plenary venue, where negotiations and state and government representatives will convene, will be called Anadolu and will seat 1,794 people. A second plenary hall, Akdeniz, will have 828 seats. Its two press briefing rooms will be named after Mevlana and Yunus Emre.
In the Green Zone, the largest venue will be the 5,000-seat Gaza Hall. Other rooms will use names associated with figures from Turkish and Islamic history and culture, including Ibn Sina, Aziz Sancar, Farabi, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Hacı Bektaş Veli, Ahmet Yesevi, Afet İnan, Fatma Aliye, Biruni and Osman Hamdi Bey.
Why it matters
The Blue Zone will host United Nations climate negotiations and will be available only to accredited participants. Organisations seeking access to official talks, national delegations or the Leaders Summit will therefore need the relevant accreditation.
The Green Zone will be open to the public and will host exhibitions, events and awareness activities. It is intended to bring together businesses, universities, civil-society groups, young people and children, creating a public-facing programme alongside the formal negotiations.
What’s next
COP31 activities are scheduled for 9–20 November. The Leaders Summit is due to take place on 11–12 November. The Ministry expects close to 100,000 visitors in the Blue Zone and 1.5 million in the Green Zone.
