What happened
The Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO) has published its fifth sustainability report, covering its activities from 1 January to 31 December 2025. The report was prepared using the 2021 GRI Standards and covers operations at İSO locations in Odakule, Yenibosna, Ümraniye, Tuzla and Hadımköy.
An Ipsos study cited by the report gave companies a score of 50.33 out of 100 for awareness of the green transition. The corresponding implementation score was 16.14. The figures show a substantial separation between understanding the transition and embedding it in business activity.
The report places climate change, circular economy, sustainable industry, employment and economic contribution, workplace safety, social responsibility, innovation and digital transformation among its priority subjects.
For industrial businesses, the immediate next step is to test whether transition awareness is being matched by practical action in operations, procurement and other relevant processes.
Why it matters
İSO has close to 23,000 members, which together produce approximately 32% of Türkiye’s industrial output. That scale means the reported implementation shortfall is relevant well beyond the chamber’s own operations.
The report identifies the circular economy as a priority in relation to both resource efficiency and competitiveness. It also references the 2025–2028 National Circular Economy Strategy, circular-economy initiatives and a protocol with the Zero Waste Foundation.
İSO’s corporate emissions profile also points to the importance of value-chain activity. Scope 3 accounted for 55.78% of its footprint, the largest share. Categories included business travel, purchased raw materials and products, disposal of solid and liquid waste, and procured services.
For sustainability teams, the results underline the need to track implementation separately from awareness, while examining indirect emissions associated with purchasing and external services.
What’s next
The report highlights COP31, due to take place in Antalya from 9 to 20 November 2026 through a Türkiye–Australia cooperation model. İSO presents the meeting as a venue to showcase industrial progress on the green transition.
The source report coverage also notes vocational education cooperation among İSO’s social priorities. Enerji Günlüğü’s report on the publication provides the underlying account of the findings.
