What happened
Saint-Gobain has begun accepting submissions for the Türkiye round of its 2027 Architecture Student Competition. The programme is available to architecture students on undergraduate and postgraduate courses at universities in Türkiye.
Participants have until 15 February 2027 to submit their projects. A national jury will assess the entries, award teams that place and select the Turkish winner for the international stage.
For sustainability professionals working with universities, design studios or early-career talent, the immediate action is to flag the deadline to eligible students and review the brief’s emphasis on energy performance, lower-carbon construction and user comfort.
The competition asks students to produce original proposals that link innovative technologies with traditional architectural features from the relevant region. Designs are also expected to respond to environmental and social requirements.
Why it matters
The competition places building sustainability considerations within an architectural design exercise, rather than treating them as separate technical requirements. Energy efficiency, reduced carbon impacts from construction and occupant comfort are identified as core elements of the design process.
That framing gives students a structured route to consider how design choices can respond to current environmental and social pressures while retaining a connection to local architectural character. It also brings national finalists into an international comparison of student work.
Saint-Gobain has run the competition internationally for more than 20 years, according to Ekoyapı Dergisi. The publication reports that the international competition includes more than 1,400 students from over 34 countries.
What happens next
Following the 15 February deadline, the Türkiye jury will determine the ranked teams. The national first-place team will represent Türkiye at the international final in Madrid, Spain, scheduled for 14 to 16 June 2027.
At the final, participating teams will present their proposals to an international jury alongside finalists from other countries. Awards for teams placing at the international stage total €12,500.
Students preparing a submission should ensure their proposal addresses the stated environmental, social, technological and regional-design considerations before the Türkiye-stage deadline.
