New LIFE allocations
The European Commission has granted more than €390 million to 135 new projects under the LIFE programme, its instrument for environment and climate action. The Commission announced the allocations in Brussels on 19 October 2026.
The funded projects are spread across Europe and cover environmental and climate-action activity. The Commission is the funder, while LIFE is the programme through which the support has been awarded.
What organisations should do
Organisations tracking EU environmental finance should review the newly backed project set and assess where it intersects with their sectors, geographies or delivery priorities. The announcement establishes a substantial new portfolio of LIFE-supported activity across Europe.
Why the allocation matters
The decision directs EU funding towards 135 individual environment and climate initiatives rather than a single programme-wide intervention. For sustainability professionals, it offers a current indication of where LIFE resources are being deployed and which organisations may be involved in implementation.
The Commission's published announcement confirms the award total and project count. It does not set out application timing or a further funding round in the material available here.
