What happened
Türkiye’s Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Ministry has launched the Zero Waste Journey Short Film Competition with fuel retailer OPET. The national contest is part of the Zero Waste Movement and is intended to encourage lower-waste travel habits.
People aged 18 or above may enter one short film, with a maximum running time of two minutes. Eligible films should use travel stories to address waste prevention, cutting single-use items, choosing reusable products, sorting waste where it arises and sending materials for recycling.
Applications are submitted online through the competition website. After the jury review, the 10 shortlisted films will be put to a public vote.
Why it matters
The initiative links the Zero Waste agenda to journeys and the fuel sector. It offers a public-awareness route for individuals and organisations seeking to promote reusable products, source separation and recycling in travel settings. The competition is being delivered under a cooperation protocol between the ministry and OPET focused on expanding zero-waste practices in the fuel industry and improving environmental awareness during travel.
What's next
Entries must arrive by 30 November 2026. The winner will receive a TRY 200,000 technology gift voucher; second place will receive TRY 150,000 and third place TRY 100,000. Total prizes are worth TRY 450,000. Awards will be presented at a ceremony after the winners are selected.
