What happened

Ekosfer Association has launched a free online training programme for journalists preparing to report on COP31, the UN climate conference scheduled for Antalya from 9 to 20 November 2026. The course is available through Ekosfer’s COP31 resource centre.

The programme consists of 48 video lessons arranged in four modules. It covers the scientific basis of climate change, its impacts and disaster risks in Türkiye, and approaches to mitigation and adaptation. Other sessions examine the relationship between energy and the climate crisis, including fossil fuels, renewable energy and nuclear power.

A further module addresses the UN climate process, the Paris Agreement and Türkiye’s position in negotiations. The practical component is designed for conference reporting, with material on accreditation, monitoring meetings, COP terminology, common mistakes and sources journalists may use.

Registration requires a name and email address; the platform does not require a password. Learners can select their starting module, track their progress and return to incomplete lessons. Participants who finish 80% of the programme receive an Ekosfer participation certificate with an online-verifiable code.

Why it matters

COP31 will place international climate negotiations in Türkiye, making an understanding of both the formal process and domestic climate impacts relevant to reporting before and during the conference. Ekosfer’s course brings scientific, policy and practical reporting material into a single self-paced programme.

For sustainability professionals following the summit, reporting that distinguishes negotiation processes, national positions and energy issues can help clarify what is being discussed in Antalya. The course’s practical material may also be useful to journalists navigating the operational demands of a COP meeting.

What to do next

Journalists can access the training at Ekosfer Association’s COP31 course announcement. Those intending to cover the conference can use the lessons ahead of the November 2026 meeting and complete at least 80% if they want the participation certificate.
