What happened
İş Finansal Kiralama, trading as İş Leasing, is to receive a €100 million financing facility under the Türkiye Green Economy Financing Programme III (GEFF III).
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will supply €94 million. A further €6 million will be provided on concessional terms by the Clean Technology Fund, part of the Climate Investment Funds.
The funding has a regional requirement: at least 30% must be deployed to businesses operating in areas affected by the earthquakes centred on Kahramanmaraş in 2023. Women entrepreneurs will be given priority in access to the facility.
According to reporting by Yeşil Ekonomi, the arrangement is the second EBRD financing for İş Leasing. The bank previously provided finance to the company through the Türkiye Sustainable Energy Financing Programme in 2021.
Why it matters
The facility expands the pool of finance available for business investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate action and water management. It is intended to serve companies across sectors, with particular relevance for small and medium-sized enterprises and women entrepreneurs.
For firms in the earthquake-affected regions, the 30% minimum allocation establishes a dedicated share of the financing rather than leaving support entirely to general lending decisions. The priority for women entrepreneurs similarly shapes how the available capital is to be allocated.
EBRD technical assistance and advisory support will accompany the programme. İş Leasing said this combination is intended to help clients invest in more sustainable and resilient business models.
What businesses should consider
Businesses considering finance should assess whether planned capital expenditure falls within the stated investment areas, including renewable energy, efficiency, climate-related measures or water management. Companies located in the regions affected by the 2023 earthquakes should note the minimum regional allocation.
Women entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses are among the groups identified as priorities. Prospective applicants should seek the relevant financing criteria and application details from İş Leasing.
