What happened
Nordex has been awarded a 34 MW contract to repower the Rauschenberg wind farm in Hesse, Germany. According to Enerji Günlüğü, the customer is EEF Erneuerbare Energien Fabrik GmbH, which has ordered five N175/6.X turbines from the manufacturer.
The project will replace five operating turbines rated at 3 MW apiece with five 6.8 MW units. This changes the site’s turbine capacity from 15 MW to 34 MW. Nordex’s scope covers delivery, erection and a 20-year maintenance arrangement. Each new turbine is to be installed on a tower with a 199-metre hub height.
Deliveries and construction are scheduled to commence from the end of 2027. The source expects the upgraded facility to produce more electricity from summer 2028.
Why it matters
The order is a defined example of repowering at an existing wind site: fewer legacy machines are being exchanged on a one-for-one basis for substantially larger turbines. The replacement equipment has more than double the rating of each outgoing turbine, while the number of turbines remains unchanged.
Nordex describes the N175/6.X as a turbine range intended to use stronger, more consistent wind flows at higher elevations.
