What happened

Türkiye’s electricity transmission operator, TEİAŞ, has published an updated position on unused distribution-grid connection capacity for unlicensed solar and wind generation. Its table, dated 1 October 2026, records 623.94 MWe still available for allocation.

The remaining volume forms part of the 2,000 MW quota opened for 2026 for unlicensed renewable plants seeking connection through the distribution network. On that basis, just under one-third of the annual quota has not yet been taken up.

TEİAŞ presents the information by transformer centre, rather than as capacity that can be used interchangeably across the country. The allocations sit within the framework of Energy Market Regulatory Authority Board Decision No. 14353 of 26 February 2026.

Why it matters

The update gives developers a current indication of where an unlicensed solar or wind project may still find distribution-level connection headroom. A national balance of 623.94 MWe does not mean that equivalent capacity is accessible at every proposed project location: the relevant transformer centre is the determining reference point.

The largest reported remaining volumes are in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Karaman and Bursa. TEİAŞ also identifies positive capacity in Ardahan, Bayburt, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Nevşehir and Uşak. These locations may warrant closer review by developers, subject to the capacity listed for the individual transformer centre.

For project pipelines, the figures are relevant to site selection and connection planning. They also show that the 2026 quota has been substantially used, making local grid availability an increasingly important practical constraint for prospective projects.

What developers should do next

Developers considering an unlicensed solar or wind installation should consult TEİAŞ’s latest transformer-centre table and assess the entry relevant to their intended connection point. They should not treat provincial or national totals as a substitute for that local check.

The 1 October table is the stated snapshot of unused quota capacity. Project teams should therefore use it as the basis for reviewing prospective distribution connections under the 2026 allocation framework.
