Solar generated 11.6% of Türkiye’s electricity in July 2026, up from 0.4% in 2016, according to Energy and Natural Resources Ministry figures reported by EkoIQ. The ministry data describe a 28-fold increase in solar’s share of power production over the decade.

Wind contributed 12.1% of electricity generation in July, compared with 5.7% ten years earlier. On those reported shares, solar and wind together supplied 23.7% of generation for the month.

Solar output reached 5.37 billion kWh in July, the highest monthly level recorded, exceeding the previous record set in June. The result provides the latest indication of the technology’s contribution during the summer period.

At the end of July, Türkiye had 126,476 MW of installed electricity capacity. Solar accounted for 27,507 MW, or 21.7% of that total, while wind represented 15,358 MW, equivalent to 12.1%.

Combined solar and wind capacity stood at 42,865 MW, making up 33.8% of the national installed fleet.

Why it matters

The figures show a material difference between the technologies’ share of installed capacity and their share of electricity produced. Solar and wind represented more than one-third of generating capacity at July-end, but their reported generation shares totalled less than one-quarter for the month.
