What happened
The European Commission has added EN 18060:2025 to the Official Journal as a harmonised standard supporting Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, the EU Batteries Regulation.
The standard concerns the performance and durability of rechargeable battery modules and batteries with internal energy storage for road vehicles. Its scope includes lithium-ion, sodium-ion, lead-acid, nickel-metal hydride and combined-chemistry products.
Following an assessment with the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN), the Commission concluded that the standard meets the requirements it was intended to address. Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2048 was adopted on 14 September 2026 and became effective when published in the Official Journal on 16 September 2026.
Why it matters
For manufacturers and other suppliers placing relevant road-vehicle rechargeable batteries on the EU market, use of EN 18060:2025 can provide a presumption that products meet the parts of the Batteries Regulation covered by the standard. That presumption applies only within the standard's scope and to the requirements it addresses.
This is relevant to Türkiye-based battery and automotive supply-chain businesses selling into the EU. They can assess whether their products fall within the standard and whether it supports their conformity assessment approach under the regulation.

The standard reference is already published and the decision is in force. Businesses can review EN 18060:2025 against the applicable requirements of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 for their products.
