What happened
The European Commission issued a corrigendum to Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1717 on 8 September 2026. Rather than making a limited amendment, the notice substitutes the decision’s entire text.
The replacement decision places one standard in its annex: EN 13203-1:2025. It concerns assessment of hot-water delivery performance from gas-fired domestic appliances that produce hot water.
The standard was developed by the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN). The Commission and CEN assessed it against the 2015 standardisation request and found that it addresses the requirements it is intended to cover under Regulation (EU) No 814/2013.
Why it matters
Regulation (EU) No 814/2013 sets ecodesign requirements for water heaters and hot-water storage tanks. Publication of a harmonised standard reference in the Official Journal means gas water heaters complying with that standard may be treated as meeting the corresponding requirements of the implementing measure. The decision also says this conformity presumption extends to relevant safety objectives under EU harmonisation law.
For manufacturers, importers and compliance teams, the practical step is to check technical files and standards references against the corrected decision rather than the original published text. The decision entered into force on its Official Journal publication date.
Regulatory context
The Commission’s 2015 request to CEN covered standards supporting both the ecodesign regulation and Delegated Regulation (EU) No 812/2013 on energy labelling for water heaters, storage tanks and certain packages. The corrigendum’s annex, however, publishes EN 13203-1:2025 in support of Regulation (EU) No 814/2013.
