What happened
HESİAD will stage the third Sustainable Future with Hydroelectricity Workshop and Exhibition on 2–3 December 2026. The event will be held in person at the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) in Ankara.
Supported by DSİ and the International Hydropower Association, this year’s programme will centre on financing and pumped-storage hydropower. Specialists are also expected to address issues linked to climate change in the hydropower industry.
Other planned topics include grid flexibility, water management, increasing water’s contribution to electricity production, rehabilitation and modernisation of power plants, and digitalisation.
Why it matters
For Turkish hydropower operators and investors, the agenda brings together financing questions with the potential role of pumped-storage facilities in balancing the electricity system. HESİAD said Türkiye ranks second in Europe and ninth globally for installed hydropower capacity.
The association’s president, Elvan Tuğsuz Güven, said pumped-storage projects could provide long-duration energy storage by reusing available water resources. She also pointed to preparations for related legislation indicated in Türkiye’s Medium-Term Programme.
What's next
The workshop and exhibition are scheduled for 2–3 December 2026 at DSİ’s headquarters in Ankara. No registration details were provided.
