What happened

Türkiye’s General Directorate of Energy Affairs has started preparations for the G26-Mardin-2 solar power plant in Derik district, Mardin, according to Enerji Günlüğü. The proposed facility would have 120 MW of installed capacity, with the investment estimated at TL1.35 billion.

The plant is planned for Şahverdi neighbourhood’s Mıh locality, on land that has already been designated as a Renewable Energy Resource Area. The development footprint is stated as 198.7 hectares.

Project specifications cited by Enerji Günlüğü include 300,000 solar modules rated at 500 W each. Annual electricity output is projected at 198 GWh. Power would be routed through a switching centre at the facility and supplied to Türkiye’s interconnected electricity system in line with a connection opinion from TEİAŞ.

Why it matters

The preparation marks a proposed addition of 120 MW of solar capacity in Mardin. It also provides defined project parameters for parties tracking utility-scale renewable development in the province, including the site area, expected generation and intended route to the national grid.

Grid delivery is conditional on TEİAŞ’s connection opinion. That makes the connection process a material point to monitor as the scheme moves beyond preparation. The available information does not identify contractors, equipment suppliers, financing arrangements or a date for commissioning.

The project has a stated economic life of 49 years. This is distinct from the planned construction period: land preparation and solar-panel installation are expected to take 36 months.

What to watch next

Readers should follow progress on the land-preparation and installation programme, as well as any connection decision from TEİAŞ. The reported construction activity is expected to use 50 personnel working across different locations. Once the plant is operating, staffing is expected to fall to 10 people.

The project’s expected annual generation, panel configuration and investment estimate are planning figures reported during the preparation stage. Further project updates would be needed to confirm implementation milestones and grid connection arrangements.
