Vestel commissions 1.2 MW truck charging equipment at Coatbridge terminal

What happened

Vestel Mobilite has commissioned high-power charging hardware at Russell Group’s rail terminal in Coatbridge, Scotland. The Glasgow-based logistics operator is using the equipment for MAN eTGX electric trucks introduced to its fleet with MAN Truck & Bus UK.

The installation comprises two CCS chargers, each with two ports and a 720 kW rating. It also includes Vestel Mobilite’s DC Stella MW 1.2 dispenser, which operates with the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard and is rated to deliver as much as 1.2 MW.

According to Turkish energy publication Enerji Günlüğü, the terminal has 1.4 MW of charging capacity at present. The electrical infrastructure was designed to support a later increase to 3.75 MW, although no schedule for additional capacity was reported.

The commissioning event at the terminal was attended by about 50 invited guests, including representatives from the Scottish and UK governments and the industry.

The project adds a high-power charging installation intended for battery-electric heavy trucks at an operating logistics site. It combines CCS equipment with an MCS-compatible dispenser, reflecting the different charging interfaces relevant to heavy-duty vehicle deployment.

For fleet and infrastructure teams, the disclosed figures distinguish between the 1.2 MW maximum rating of the dispenser and the terminal’s current 1.4 MW charging capacity. They also indicate that the site has been planned for a larger connection and charging build-out rather than solely its initial configuration.

Operators following heavy-truck electrification should watch for any announced move from 1.4 MW to the planned 3.75 MW capacity, as no timing has been provided. The project is also a UK deployment of charging hardware manufactured by Vestel Mobilite for Russell Group’s MAN eTGX vehicles.

What comes next

Russell Group’s Coatbridge terminal can be expanded to 3.75 MW under its existing infrastructure plan. Enerji Günlüğü did not report a date, investment figure or further technical detail for that expansion.
